If you’re reading this, you might be thinking about talking to someone, or maybe someone suggested that it might be helpful?
Either way, I understand that it can feel a bit strange or even awkward at first. And that's okay.
What can you expect in sessions?
I bring curiosity, humour, compassion, honesty, and a real interest in you. I’m not here to judge or lecture. I’m here to get to know who you are, how things are really going for you, and how we can make things feel a bit easier.
Counselling with me isn’t just sitting in a chair talking about your feelings (unless that’s what you like). We can mix it up—play music, go for a walk, play a game, do something creative, like drawing or art, or just hang out with my dog in the garden if you need a calm moment. We can also change seeing each other on zoom, or face to face. It’s your space, and we’ll shape it in a way that works for you.
Whether you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, low, or just unsure of what’s next, we’ll figure things out together—at your pace. You don’t need to have it all worked out to start. Just coming to the sessions and being willing to feel better is enough.
Afterwards, I will ask you to contact me and let me know what you would like to do. Just to make sure that it is YOUR choice.
In the sessions with Teenagers and Young adults, we set clear goals, just like I do with adults, and there will be some practice for you to do in between sessions.
“Saskia is easy to talk to. I thought counselling was going to be boring, but you made it fun”
Young counselling client (15)
This works exactly like face-to-face sessions, for adults and young people, but there are a few extra things to take into account.
With young people, there are of course additional boundaries in place. Like any counselling, CBT for young people is confidential; I will only share with parents, carers or school, if and safeguarding issues arise. The young person and I will always decide together what I will say and how I will phrase it.
Confidentiality is not extended to the family – I will share any communication I have from parents or carers with the young person. I trust that my clients share (what they want to share) with their families. They have that ownership.
“I’ve definitely noticed a more positive boy. I feel he’s able to help himself deal with situations and life stuff much better. And I think if he feels the need to say anything to me, he can now, whereas before he would bottle it up”
